Case: Acute respiratory distress and chest pain
A 75-year-old man is brought into the resus room of your tertiary ED with acute respiratory distress. Family members report the patient complaining of chest pain over the past few days. One hour prior to arrival, he suddenly began to complain of acute shortness of breath, worsening chest pain and frothy pink sputum. Initial vitals are as follows :
- HR 110/min irregular
- BP 100/65
- RR 30
- Sats 92% on 15L/min NRB
- GCS 15
- Temp 36.8Β°C
